All skills should be performed on both feet and/or in both directions.
1 Foot Spin- wind up and rotate at least 2 times
1 Foot Spin with 3 Turn Entry- start spin with a 3 turn, rotate at least 2 times
1 Foot Spin with Set-up- preferably without pause between the crosscuts and the step for the spin. Spin must start with a 3 turn and rotate at least 3 times
B 1 Foot Skate- like 2 foot skating but shifting the weight from foot to foot so each in turn comes slightly off the ice.
B Circle Thrust- back pumping on a circle, pushing foot must stay on the ice and work in front of the gliding foot
B Crosscuts- cross at least at the ankles, preferably sequentially. Preferably, but not necessarily with the BI pushing foot staying on the ice
B Set-up- preparation for waltz jump with back crosscuts and BO preparatory edge
B Straight Strokes- back skate properly picking up pushing foot and moving it in front of the skating foot for a glide at least 1 'Mississippi' long (count...1 Mississippi)
BI Edges- on a curve at least 1 metre (1 yard) in diameter. Must be balanced on the skating foot not hanging off of it. Curve must return somewhat to the long axis.
BO Edges- on a curve at least 1 metre (1 yard) in diameter. Must be on a BO edge, not BI grinding in the outside direction. Curve must return somewhat to the long axis.
BO or BI 3 Turn- From a moving start. Must turn on the heel of the blade and glide at least 6" in and out.
BO or BI Glide- balance on a small curve at least ½ metre (1/2 yard) in diameter- for at least 3 Mississippis (count... 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi)
BO or BI Mohawk- on a circle
F Circle Thrust- on a circle, skating foot stays on the circle, pushing foot thrusts out and back
F Circle Thrust, Move Free Leg- a forward circle thrust and then move the free foot in front and balance
F Crosscuts- cross at least at the ankles, some toe pushing allowed but only after the cross on 2 feet
F Crosscuts and Push- cross at least at the ankles, sequentially with no toe pushing
F Hockey Glide- 2 foot glide on a curve with the weight on the outside edge. * see diagram below
F Crossed Hockey Glide- 2 foot glide on a curve with the weight on the inside edge, feet crossed at least at the ankles. * see diagram below
F or B 1 Foot Glide- at least 3 Mississippis (count…1 Mississsipi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Misssissippi)
F or B Scull- feet turn in and out. * see diagram below
F or B Slalom- feet remain parallel *see diagram below
F Slalom- through about 8 cones approximately 1 metre (1 yard) or less apart. With about a 4 metre (4 yard) head start the skater should be able to get through all the cones without picking up his feet.
F Tuck * see diagram below
FI Edges- on a curve at least 1 metre (1 yard) in diameter. Must be balanced on the skating foot, not hanging off of it
FI Mohawk- from a standstill, glide at least ½ metre (1/2 yard) in and out
FO Edges- on a curve at least 1 metre (1 yard) in diameter and must be on a FO edge, not FI grinding in the outside direction
FO or FI 3- from a standstill. Turn must glide at least 15 cm (6") before and after the turn
FO or FI 3 with Glide- done from a standstill with a glide at least ½ metre (1/2 yard) before and after the turn
Jump on the Spot- take off and touch down toe first
Ladder- walking sideways crossing feet. In the cross position the skater must be able to stand still on two feet without losing his balance
Landing Position- balance and glide on a circle in the landing position
Making Snow- stand on the spot and skid up a pile of snow.
O or I 3 Jump- from a standstill, focus is on taking off and landing on the toe.
F or B Arabesque- * see diagram below
Push to 1 Foot Glide- 1 push only, toe push if necessary. Glide in a straight line at least 1 metre (1 yard) Push to FO or FI- from a standstill. Curve must return somewhat to the long axis
Skate F- Skate B- Skate F, Repeat- step around to change direction
Turn B to F- weight must shift backward on the blade through the turn (2 foot turn)
Turn F to B- weight must shift forward on the blade through the turn (2 foot turn)
Waltz Jump- from standstill, some control evident on the landing
